Medaram Fest a la Kumbha Mela, says SP Singh

Hyderabad Jan 11 (): Chief Secretary, SP Singh has said that biennial Sammakka and Saralamma Tribal Festival in Medaram will be conducted on the lines of noted “Kumbha Mela”. Holding a high level review meeting at Secretariat here he instructed the officials concerned to make wide ranging publicity on international level using channels, face book and social media for the tribal festival. Medaram Festival will be conducted for four days from Jan 31 to Feb 3. As about one crore people from various states will be turning up to the mega festival arrangements with all facilities be in place he said. SP Singh specifically said that arrangements must be made on the lines of Kumbha Mela in Uttar Pradesh and enable the people enjoy the facilities. Accordingly the officials should prepare plans to conduct the event and attract foreign tourists in a large number for the Sammakka and Saralamma festival in Telangana. Culture wing monitor the arrangements thorugh a cell he said adding that former Warangal Collector Karuna will be appointed as monitoring official for the event. The officials were directed to invite tribal, culture ministers, MPs, MLAs and officials for the festival with protocol. He directed to use helicopter services for the Medaram Festival, steps for traffic regulation with parking facility. Also he stressed need for drinking water, sanitation, power supply, modern toilets, adequate civic staff and meetings by culture wing and tourism officials to release a brochure to mark the tribal festival. Information Commissioner Arvind Kumar, Tourism and Culture Secretary B Venkatesham, Endowment Commissioner Shiva Shankar, Tribal Commissioner Chrtistina Z Chongtu, Nagi Reddy and others were present.
